Oct 21, 2012. #7. It's a reverse gear, 99% of cars will do this if it's engaged to quickly, mainly because of the gear cog setup. Loads of info on it here for other models. Either need to double declutch, engage another gear before hand (not sure if reverse has a synchro) or put up with it, it's nothing to major. J.
I recently bought an used Grande Punto 1.3 multijet with dualogic transmition. The problem is that when it is auto downshifting from 3rd to 2nd sometimes the engine stalls and and I had to restart the engine. No other problems with up shift or downshift. Any suggestions about this ?

Many "dualogic" problems are actually also suffered by non-Dualogic cars, but the problem had less effect because, for example, a manual gearbox won't stop working because your brake lights are faulty. A Dualogic car relies on knowing when you are braking, and will try to choose the safest option when it can't tell, i.e. go into Neutral.

Yes very simple to do. Drive along at 5th gear in auto mode at 30 mph pressing the throttle very lightly to maintain speed. Then suddenly smash the throttle pedal to the medal (or plastic in fiat 500's case) and it will go into 2nd gear without you touching anything.
